ROLE OF SULPHUR IN MANAGEMENT OF HAEMORRHOIDS

HAEMORRHOIDS Haemorrhoids (Greek word- hatima – blood, rhoos- flowing) syn. piles’ (Latin – pila a ball) are veins occurring in relation to the anus. Dilatation of anal cushions (dilatation of anal veins).

INCIDENCE

 Worldwide, the prevalence of symptomatic haemorrhoids is estimated at 4.4% in the general population.

SYMPTOMS

Most haemorrhoids are mild and sometimes don’t even cause symptoms. When there are symptoms, these usually include

 a) Bleeding after passing a stool (the blood will be bright red)

 b) Itchy bottom 

c) A lump hanging down outside of the anus (something coming out of anus) 

d) Prolapse

 e) Mucus discharge

 f) Anemia

 g) Pain (associated with external piles)

 CAUSES OF HAEMORRHOIDS

 1) Hereditary 

2) Anatomical 

3) Chronic constipation (straining to expel constipated stool) 4) Diet (western diet may excite haemorrhoid formation)

TYPE OF HAEMORRHOIDS

INTERNAL Haemorrhoids: base of the piles situated above the dentate line.

EXTERNAL Haemorrhoids: base of the piles situated below the dentate line

 ANOTHER CLASSIFICATION 

1) PRIMARY: Dilatation of veins correspond to superior haemorrhoidal artery.

 2) SECONDARY: Dilatation of all other veins of the anal canal Primary Haemorrhoids are most common Primary Haemorrhoids are usually not painful So we can say haemorrhoids are usually painless

  2.  PROLAPSE WITH GOES BACK SPONTANEOUSLY
  3.   PROLAPSE REQUIRING DIGITAL REDUCTION 
  4.  IRREDUSABLE PROLAPSE

COMPLICATION – The two main complication of haemorrhoids are bleeding (particularly in first degree and early stage of second degree) and thrombosis Other complication are strangulation, fibrosis, suppuration and gangrene

MANAGEMENT

BOWEL REGULATION – Many haemorrhoidal symptoms can be relieved by avoiding excessive defaecation straining. This can be done by advising high residue diet and mild laxative, maintain local hygiene and Increase water intake.

 TREATMENT

 ALLOPATHIC- Injection therapy, rubber band ligation, cryosurgery etc.

HOMOEOPATHIC – homoeopathic medicine is an effective and safe for treatment of piles. there is lots of medicines such as nitric acid, hamamelis, aesculus, sulphur etc.

SULPHUR 

Piles: Piles are very painful. It may be blind or bleeding. The blood is venous wit itching and burning in anus. Piles are dependent upon abdominal plethora. 

The patient is afraid to pass stool on account of pain, or pain compels the patient to give up the effort, and the discharge of faeces is painful to parts over which it passes. Constipation alternates with diarrhoea. Burning, itching around anus , bleeding per rectum, pain during defecation are marked symptoms Of sulphur.

MY STUDY

TITLE NAME- A clinical study on the role of sulphur in the management of haemorrhoids.

MATERIAL AND METHOD-Among the 40 patients included in the sample, the results revealed that the majority experienced moderate to mild improvement with the treatment. Specifically, 12.5% showed marked improvement, 42.5% exhibited moderate improvement, 25% showed mild improvement, and 20% did not show any significant improvement.

 CONCLUSION-the homoeopathic remedy Sulphur is beneficial in treating haemorrhoids and also enhances the overall condition of the patients.
