Beneath the Rash: A Homoeopathic Journey to Skin Harmony – A Case Report

Abstract:

Tinea (dermatophytosis) is a superficial fungal infection affecting keratinized tissues such as the skin, hair, and nails. According to Davidson’s Principles and Practice of Medicine, dermatophyte infections are primarily caused by species of Trichophyton, Microsporum, and Epidermophyton. These infections are particularly prevalent in warm and humid climates and are transmitted through direct contact with infected individuals, animals, or contaminated objects. Tinea eruptions typically present as pruritic, erythematous, scaly lesions with well-defined margins and central clearing.

Keywords:

Tinea infection, Natrum muriaticum, Bacillinum, holistic homeopathic treatment.

Introduction:

A 20-year-old female presented on 5 December 2025 with complaints of eruptions on both lower limbs, particularly around the thighs and calves, which later spread to both axillae and arms.

The eruptions initially appeared around the thighs 7 days prior to consultation. The patient had taken allopathic medication, after which the eruptions spread to other body parts.

Presenting Complaints

  • Eruptions over thighs, calves, axillae and arms
  • Intense itching followed by burning sensation
  • Itching aggravated by touch and summer
  • Itching ameliorated by cold water application sometimes

The clinical presentation suggested a modified form of tinea infection.

Past history:

  • Recurrent tinea infection started at 11th std
  • Jaundice in childhood
  • Recurrent epistaxis having dark red blood
  • History of Recurrent corns

Personal history:

•Appetite : one chapati per meal

Mental symptoms:

Patient’s narration:
“I get angry easily but have good control over my anger; it usually arises when my expectations are not fulfilled.

I rarely cry in front of others, I always weep in alone, because I feel that people might think I am weak and judge me.

I have been engaged for the past eight months. My fiancé often does not understand women’s emotions. I feel he should understand things without my having to explain them. When he does not understand, it hurts me. If I explain something twice and he still does not listen, I become quiet and adjust myself. Sometimes I cannot understand his behavior, although he supports me in many ways—for example, when a friend used to trouble me, he understood and helped me.

If someone does not listen, I control myself and eventually forget about it.

I want to financially support my father.

I prefer living alone because then I can do whatever I want, and no one judges me quickly.

When I am doing something and someone keeps interrupting or pointing things out, I get distracted and upset. When my mother tells me in the kitchen, “Do it this way, do it that way,” I do not like it. Sometimes it spoils the work. I want to speak up, but I do not because I fear she might get angry.

If someone else is present, I usually do not make decisions myself. I think about whether they will like it or not. Whatever they choose, I accept it as fine.”

Discussion:

This case highlights the effectiveness of individualized homeopathic treatment in the management of Tinea infection, especially when the clinical presentation is modified due to prior conventional medication. Despite initial allopathic treatment, the patient experienced progression and recurrence of eruptions, suggesting that the underlying susceptibility had not been addressed.

Prescription of the constitutional remedy Natrum muriaticum based on the totality of mental and physical symptoms resulted in rapid relief of itching and complete resolution of eruptions. The use of the intercurrent remedy Bacillinum further helped in stabilizing the patient’s condition and preventing recurrence.

Conclusion:

The case demonstrates the homeopathic principle of achieving cure in a rapid, gentle, and permanent manner, as described by Samuel Hahnemann. By addressing the individual constitution rather than merely suppressing local manifestations, homeopathy was able to provide sustained relief with no recurrence.
