Dr. Dharam Prakash Rastogi [July 8, 1939 – Dec 15, 2010]
Prof. Dr. D. P. Rastogi, D.M.S. (Hon), Gold Medalist, M.B.S. Hom. (W.B.) 1972, D.F. Hom. (London) 1962, P-gr. (Glasgow), was born on 8th July 1939. He was a homeopathic physician with more than 50 years of clinical experience in classical homeopathy, who practiced homeopathy in consonance with the teachings of Hahnemann, Boenninghausen, Kent and Boger.
Educational Studies
He graduated from the Calcutta Homeopathic Medical College in 1958, obtained his post graduate diploma [DF Hom] from the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital, Faculty of Homeopathy UK in 1962, and also attended a postgraduate course at the Glasgow Homeopathic Hospital.
Dr. D. P. Rastogi had been the Principal of Nehru Homeopathic College New Delhi from 1975 to1984 and was later Director of the Central Council of Research in Homeopathy (1984-1999), Govt. of India, till his retirement in 1999. Prof. D. P. Rastogi had been teaching Repertory and Materia Medica to Undergraduate and PG classes since 1975 and acting as Guide and Examiner in several universities.
He has been appointed Professor Emeritus at Homoeopathic Medical College Beed, Marathwada University Aurangabad. He also established Boenninghausen Academy for Classical Homoeopathy in Gurgaon, to promote teaching of the Boenninghausen Repertory.
Dr. Rastogi authored Golden Tips by Masters, An Overview of Repertories for PG Students, Some Case Reports and Use of Indigenous and Other Remedies in Homeopathy as Home Remedies – all published by B. Jain Publishers. Recently, Dr. Rastogi had been given the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Homoeopathic Medical Association of India.

Central Research Institute of Homoeopathy located at A-1/1, Sector 24, NOIDA, Uttar Pradesh is one of the premier research institutes of Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, New Delhi under Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India, came into existence w.e.f 1st May, 2007. It was named as Dr. D.P. Rastogi Central Research Institute of Homoeopathy on 7th October 2015 and officially inaugurated by Shri Shripad Naik, Honble Minister of State (Independent charge), Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India. The institute has been established with its focus on research and engaged for overall development and promotion of Homoeopathic system of medicine through scientific research. There is full fledge hospital set up including OPD, IPD, Laboratory facilities along with speciality clinics viz. ENT, Ophthalmology, Physiotherapy, Lifestyle Disorder Clinic, Dermatology and Rheumatology clinics are running successfully within the institute. Apart from catering to the needs of the patients, the institute carries out research in the field of Drug Standardization, Drug Proving, Clinical Verification and Clinical Research.
His major contribution in the field of Homoeopathy started with the Formulation of Homoeopathic Central Council Act in 1973. He introduced Homoeopathy in Drug and Cosmetic Act and took initiatives for publication of Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia of India. He was a passionate teacher, author, physician and researcher. He is also known as the Ambassador for Indian Homoeopathy and has been honoured with numerous awards, to name a few:
- The Hahnemann Award in 1995
- Dhanwantri Award in 1997
- Hahnemann Memorial Award in 2002
- The Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008
Dr. D. P Rastogi was indeed a legend, having passed out as a Gold Medalist from the Calcutta Homoeopathic Medical College, and then further from London and Glasgow. Dr. Rastogi has painstakingly developed the academics in homoeopathy. He established the Boenninghausen Academy for Classical Homoeopathy to promote the teaching of Boenninghausen’s Repertory. He was Ex-Director, Central Council of Research in Homeopathy, New Delhi, India, and was the Ex-Principal, Nehru Homeopathic Medical College and Hospital, New Delhi, India. All this is apart from being an Honorary Visiting Professor to a number of Homoeopathic colleges. Dr. Rastogi’s painstaking efforts have given to Homoeopathy priceless works like ‘Golden Tips by Masters’, ‘Use of Indigenous Drugs as Common Remedies’, ‘An Overview of Repertories for PG Students’ and many more. His years of toil, relentless perseverance, has conferred upon him Awards like the Hahnemann Award-1995, Dhanwantri Award-1997, and more recently the Lifetime Achievement Award. A keen observer, a great listener and an embodiment of knowledge, ever ready to share, Dr. Dharam Prakash Rastogi lived true to his name-The Light of Virtue.
His writings will live with us and he will always be remembered for the great things he has done for our wonderful healing art. He was very popular as an Examiner for M.D students in subject of Repertory and always desired to learn something new from his young pupils. He was an encyclopaedia of BBCR repertory and zealously shared his knowledge at every college he visited. His articles served as an immense encouragement to budding homoeopaths all across the country. He made it a point to resolve every query raised by his audiences during his sincere deliberations at various homoeopathic events.
