A Homoeopathic Case Study of Migraine Successfully Managed with Lac Caninum: A Case Report

A Homoeopathic Case Study of Migraine Successfully Managed with Lac Caninum

Abstract

Introduction

Migraine is a chronic, recurrent neurovascular disorder characterized by episodic headache  associated with nausea, photophobia, phonophobia, and functional disability. Conventional  management often provides symptomatic relief but fails to address individual susceptibility and  recurrence. Homoeopathy, through individualized remedy selection based on totality of symptoms,  offers a holistic approach.

Case Summary:

A 28-year-old-female presented with symptoms of Recurrent headache for 2 years, pain extends from  occiput to forhead, pulsating type of pain, alternating side. Detailed case-taking, analysis, and  repertorial evaluation led to the prescription of Lac Caninum, resulting in significant improvement in  frequency, intensity, and associated symptoms, with sustained relief.

Keywords Migraine, Lac Caninum, Homoeopathy, Case report, Individualization

Introduction

Migraine is a primary headache disorder affecting approximately 12–15% of the global population,  with higher prevalence among females. It is characterized by unilateral or bilateral throbbing  headache, often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and sensory hypersensitivity. Emotional stress,  hormonal changes, and sensory stimuli are common triggers.

From a homoeopathic perspective, migraine is not merely a local pathology but an expression of  constitutional imbalance. Individualization, based on mental and physical generals along with  characteristic particulars, forms the cornerstone of treatment. Lac Caninum, a remedy prepared from  dog’s milk, is known for its marked alternation of symptoms, strong mental features such as lack of  self-confidence and sensitivity to criticism, and characteristic shifting pains—features that make it a  valuable remedy in certain migraine cases.

She has so much anxiety; she gets terrified very easily. Any bad news startles her.  She has a lot of tension about her health. She has so many negative thoughts about  it – what if she has a heart problem?

She feels rejected because of her colleagues at the workplace. She feels  worthless and disgusted with herself. She believes that she is not capable  enough to get a good position in her job. That’s why she is trying very hard  to accomplish all tasks on time and submit her work before the deadline.  When she is not able to finish tasks on time, she feels inferior and lacking  in potential. She fears losing her job, so she completes the work hurriedly.  Dream of snakes — there is one large snake, and she is fighting with it.  Her friends go to parties but they don’t invite her. She feels so lonely and  bad. She feels left out. She misses them a lot, and her mind constantly  revolves around the affairs of life.

In college too, her friend Neeta did the same thing to her. She feels she might not  be worthy enough for this.
