Central Government has approved the establishment of a new Government Medical College, as per the request of Chief Minister of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh, at Hoshiarpur, besides the upgradation of the existing local Civil Hospital. The College will be constructed at the cost of Rs. 325 crore, of which Rs. 195 crore, i.e. 60% share, will be met by the Central Government and the rest will be contributed by the Punjab State Government. This will be the 6th Government Medical College after Amritsar, Faridkot, Patiala, Mohali, Kapurthala.
