Dr Anil Bhatia expired on 12th October 2002. The homoeopathic fraternity lost a very eminent homoeopath, well respected teacher, educator, leader, a dear friend and colleague to all. Dr. Anil Bhatia had dedicated his entire lifetime for the upliftment of homoeopathy, as a discipline.
Born on 13th May 1942, In Mandvi, Kutch, he completed his preliminary Homoeopathic education in 1962 at Calcutta. The seeds of his belief in the homoeopathic system of medicine were sown then. Wanting to learn more about homoeopathy and withstanding all financial and other difficulties, he went to London’s premier Homoeopathic Institute to obtain further qualifications D.F Homoeopathic. In 1975 he completed M.B.S, Faculty of Homoeopathic Medicine Calcutta.
After completion of his education he started his private practice in Calcutta. But his vision at the young age was to create a uniform educational regulation for homoeopathic education. His dedication for homoeopathy was seen early on when he left his flourishing practice and decided to move to Savli, a small village near Baroda, Gujarat. He was offered the post of Principal at Homoeopathic College in Savli in 1971-1975. This event was a turning point inhis life, when he found the path to achieve his goals for educational reforms in homoeopathy.
From 1975 to 1986 he served as principal of Chandaben Mohanbhai Patel Homoeopathic Medical College, Mumbai. Under his leadership and interaction with the university of Mumbai, Central council of Homoeopathy and other such organisations, he was able to introduce the first B.H.M.S course in India, a recognised degree course from Mumbai University.
Dr Bhatia made lots of contributions in the fields of Education and research. As a chairman of the Education Committee of Central council of homoeopath, He brought uniform educational regulations for homoeopathic education which was formulated and implemented in universities and various boards of homoeopathy all over the country. Under his guidance, a post graduate course in homoeopathy was introduced for the first time in the country in 1989-1990. Over the years, he developed various homoeopathic colleges and hospitals in accordance with the norms laid down by the central council of homoeopathy.
Dr. Bhatia held various positions of leadership through which he was able to bring significant reforms in homoeopathic research and education at the national level. His appointments were as follows;
- Honorary Advisor, Homoeopathy, Ministry of health and family welfare
- Member, Governing body and Scientific Advisory committee- Central council for research in homoeopathy
- Chairman, Academic committee of National Institute of Homoeopathy
As a Chairman of Homoeopathic committee for drugs and technical Advisory board, Ministry of health, Government of India and Chairman, Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia Committee, Govt. of India, he strived to bring quality control and standardisation in homoeopathic therapeutics.
He was selected as the official delegate by the Govt of India for International Homoeopathic Congress at Washington D.C, U.S.A. He attended the conference organised by Homoeopathic medical International in Mexico where he received International award for merit-for his contributions to Homoeopathy. He was also the speaker at Liga International Homoeopathic league at Seattle. He was also invited ad a guest speaker by George Vitholkas International school, Athens, Greece in 1998 and to School of Homoeopathy, Krakow, Poland in 1999.
Dr. Bhatia had a very successful private practice and his clinical experience stretched over 40 years. His ability to listen and understand his patients, his razor sharp clinical acumen, his knowledge of homoeopathic philosophy and therapeutics and transparent honesty in his limitations won him the trust of hundreds of patients, many of whom belonged to the Bollywood film industry. Inspite of his busy practice, he opted to serve as Honorary Homoeopathic Physician at B.N Nanavati Hospital, Mumbai where he would see patients from all strata of society. Every year in month of October Homoeopathic Education and Research Institute(H.E.R.I) Mumbai organises a seminar in fond remembrance of him. His son in law Dr Satish Gala, His dear friends: Dr. Kishore Mehta, Dr Arun Bhashme, Dr Kavishwar, Dr Arvind kothe and Dr Mitesh Kothari are instrumental to pass on the fire of knowledge kindled by Late Dr. Anil Bhatia to new generation of homoeopaths.
As a token of all his achievements, he received the Homoeo Dynasty Great Masters Award in 1995 And Dr. Hahnemann Memorial National Award in 1999.
