Homoeopathic Integrated Approach Towards use of Decimal and Centesimal Scale among Chronic Patients

Homoeopathic Integrated Approach Towards use of Decimal and Centesimal Scale among Chronic Patients

Abstract

Background:

Two potency scales are in regular use in Homoeopathic Pharmacy.Decimal Scales

(D or X scale) and Centesimal scale(C scale) are in regular use of chronic  opd and ipd patients.

The decimal scale was introduced by an American Homoeopath

Dr Constantine Hering in 1830 ,while Centesimal scale dilution were standardized by Dr Samuel Hahnemann in 1816.

Objective:

Integrated approach towards use of Decimal and Centesimal scales among chronic  patients.

Methods:

Clinical and observational study from the direct inquiry survey method was adopted to collect information about homoeopathic scales among routine OPD and IPD homoeopathic patients of Rajkot Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital,Rajkot.

A predefined questions series used to collect data from individual patients.

Results:

(1)73.34% (22/30patients) were cured by taken Centesimal scale homoeopathic medicine,

(2)23.33%(7/30 patients) were in improvements by decimal scale homoeopathic medicine,

(3)3.33%(1/30 patients) left the treatment.

Conclusion:

This comparative study of Decimal and Centesimal scale shows that  in routine patients the Centesimal scale is more effective than Decimal scale in chronic patients.

This study concluded homoeopathic integrated approach towards use of Decimal and Centesimal scale and cure percentage and their comparative study.

Introduction:

Homoeopathy is among the most effective system of therapeutics introduced by

“Dr Samuel Hahnemann”during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, which is based on law of similars.

The basics and system of therapeutics, diseases are treated by highly diluted substances, which in the healthy individual state are capable of producing similar symptoms like those of the disease ones.Homoeopathy pharmacy lies in discovering the latent curative powers of medicinal substances.

Many homoeopathic medicines are toxic in their crude state, that is the exact reason that Dr Samuel Hahnemann introduced the process of potentization of medicine by serial dilution and succession.

This process of potentization of medicine elminated all the toxic side effects of crude substances and made them safe to use.Potentization is considered the most valuable discovery to enhance the medicine inherent curative power and eliminate the toxicity.

Three potency scales are regularly used in homoeopathic pharmacy. The Decimal,Centesimal and LM potency,in few supportive measurement mother tincture are also used by homoeopathic physician.According to the Centesimal scale 1 drop of crude tincture is mixed in 99 drops of alcohol while Decimal potencies are diluted on 1:9 scale.

Results from this study determine the cure rate percentage.

Disscussion:

A single arm  clinical and observational study from direct inquiry survey method data of 30 individuals of all age groups for comparative study in Decimal and Centesimal scale is to be done with 1% significance level and results obtained are highly significant and dependent with chi square test.

During this observational study was aimed to reflect the contemporary homoeopathic care with potency related comparison,in practice treated with different opd and ipd patients,on the basis of individualisation and totality of symptoms. The potency and dose selection for indicated medicine depand upon patient susceptibilities, seat, nature, intensity, stage and duration of disease,as per 6th edition of Organon of medicine.

Medicines were dispensed by the pharmacist of RHMCH,Rajkot ,as per my personal direction according to individualised cases.

The result of this study showed that 22 patients were cured with Centesimal scale and 7 patients were cured with Desimal scale, that means the cure percentage is more with Centesimal scale.

That guides us to treat the patients with Centesimal scale rather than Decimal Scale. The reliability is more with Centesimal scale potency.

Conclusion :

Potency choice is a widespread and distressing subject that has a deep impact on the individual level of experience of different homoeopaths. This study showed us a clear percentage of cure rate that determines the selection of potency among Decimal and Centesimal scales.

The above study has revealed the effectiveness of Centesimal Scale in management of chronic disease is highly significant positive outcomes that helped to know the homoeopathy community as well as patients significantly improved with a promising potency.
