The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, today inaugurated the National Arogya Fair 2026 in Shegaon, Buldhana district of Maharashtra. On the occasion, she also felicitated six senior Vaidyas for their distinguished contributions to AYUSH healthcare.
Addressing the gathering, the President emphasized that in India’s tradition, complete health is regarded as the highest form of happiness. She noted that healthy citizens are fundamental to nation-building and acknowledged that AYUSH systems of medicine have made an invaluable contribution to public health.
Highlighting the enduring relevance of Yoga, Ayurveda, Siddha and other traditional systems, she said they have served humanity since the dawn of modern medicine and continue to provide holistic solutions for contemporary health challenges.
The President underscored the importance of India’s natural wealth — farms, kitchens, and forests — as reservoirs of medicinal plants and healing herbs. She stressed that conserving and cultivating medicinal plants not only supports medicine production but also strengthens environmental balance, soil health, and farmers’ livelihoods. Promoting AYUSH systems, she said, contributes simultaneously to physical well-being, economic empowerment, and ecological sustainability.
She further noted that Ayurveda, Yoga, and other AYUSH disciplines offer guidance for a balanced and preventive lifestyle. With growing global recognition of integrative medicine, people worldwide are adopting yoga for stress-free living and benefiting from Ayurvedic therapies.
The President appreciated the efforts of the Ministry of AYUSH in advancing evidence-based research, standardization, and quality control. She highlighted that research and drug development guidelines aligned with international standards have been established, and scientific initiatives are ongoing to position AYUSH systems as credible, research-backed healthcare solutions.
Expressing confidence in the future of traditional medicine, she said that through scientific innovation, modernization, and global collaboration, AYUSH systems will become an integral part of a holistic and inclusive healthcare framework.
