Book Review on Conscientious Objector – Why I Became A Homeopath by Corey Weinstein, MD

Dear Dick

I did get your new book from Dana, and just finished it.  Thank you for taking us on your romp through the tangled web of US disease care with its successes and failures.

I was gripped by your honesty about your own practice, and amazed at your memory of cases long past and experiences many years ago.  The chapter on vaccines was excellent, of course.  I’m so glad to see the data and your conclusions so well presented.  The descriptions of the real effects of vaccines remind me of the public health misunderstanding of the late-70s sudden decline in cardiovascular illness that was falsely attributed to dietary change.  Few did change diet, but there was an off-the-table-top drop that coincided with the removal of Lead from gasoline.  It made sense to us homeopaths given what we know about Plumbum.

As well I’m reminded of an encounter early in my career at a little seminar at Maisi Panos’ home in Tipp City.  One morning I saw Marion Bell Rood, MD at the top of the stairs struggling to descend while holding a weight of journals cradled in both arms.  I moved up to meet her and she dumped the load onto me saying, “it’s slow viruses study them and look at vaccines.”  It was a load of Scientific American journals that dealt with research on slow virus disease…most quite above my head.

Your book was a balm for my soul and full of great insights and information along the way.  Thank you for sharing this with the world.  Though for your next one maybe you can avoid those paragraph long sentences that make it a bit hard and confusing for slow readers like me. I’m grateful to know you as a colleague and truth teller who has from afar helped me negotiate the fierce headwinds of medicine for money that studiously ignore people in the process.

Be well,

Corey Weinstein, MD
