The valedictory session of the two-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) on “Advancing Evidence-Based Practice in Homoeopathy: Case-Based Clinical Perspectives” was held today at Lemon Tree Hotel, Sichey, under the aegis of the Department of AYUSH, Government of Sikkim. The session was chaired by Shri G.T. Dhungel, Hon’ble Minister for AYUSH Department, Government of Sikkim.
The programme was attended by Secretary, Department of AYUSH, Mrs. Suchitra Rasaily (SCS), Advisor Shri Arjun Ghatani, Chairman Shri Manoj Kumar Pradhan, Chairperson of the Board of Ethics and Registration in Homoeopathy (BERH), National Commission for Homoeopathy (NCH), New Delhi, Dr. Tarkeshwar Jain, President (BERH), Dr.Harcharan Jeet Kaur, Senior Consultant (NCH), Dr. Monika Kathuria, Additional Director, Department of AYUSH, Mrs. Chunni Thakarpa, along with senior officials, doctors, and participants from across the state.
In her welcome address, the Secretary described the CME as an important step towards strengthening scientific and evidence-based homoeopathic practice in Sikkim and emphasised on the opportunities that such platform brings .
She also informed the gathering that the Sikkim AYUSH Council has recently received Cabinet approval, marking a significant milestone in formalizing the registration and regulation of AYUSH practitioners in the state. On behalf of the Department of AYUSh , she expressed deep gra to Honble Chief Minister of Sikkkm and the Hon’ble Minister of AYUSH, Government of Sikkim. She further sought continued support and collaboration from the National Commission for Homoeopathy for future initiatives.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Tarkeshwar Jain emphasized the need for establishing a State Council and a government homoeopathic medical college in Sikkim to enhance affordable education and streamline practitioner registration. He highlighted the growing global relevance of homoeopathy as a safe and effective healthcare system, particularly in addressing challenges such as antimicrobial resistance and overdependence on steroids.
Advisor Shri Arjun Ghatani stressed the importance of transitioning towards evidence-based clinical practice and encouraged practitioners to integrate traditional healing knowledge with modern scientific research. He also highlighted Sikkim’s immense biodiversity potential in strengthening the healthcare sector and promoting holistic wellness.
In his address, the Hon’ble Minister Shri G.T. Dhungel commended the Department of AYUSH for successfully organizing the CME and termed it a landmark initiative for the professional advancement of homoeopathic practitioners in the state. He highlighted two major achievements of the Government; the Cabinet approval of the AYUSH Council and the ongoing efforts to establish a dedicated AYUSH Cadre for ensuring structured career progression and better service delivery. The Minister further reaffirmed the Government’s commitment towards establishing a government homoeopathic college and hospital in Sikkim, aligning with the state’s vision of becoming a leading destination for wellness and medical tourism.
A meeting was also held later under the chairmanship of the Hon’ble Minister with the Chairperson and President of NCH, attended by senior officials of the Department of AYUSH, to discuss the future roadmap for strengthening homoeopathy and AYUSH services in the state.
The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates and mementos to the guests and participants, followed by a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Karma Chaden Bhutia, Additional Director cum SPO (NAM), who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, resource persons, and participants for their valuable contribution towards the success of the CME.
