NCH Rolls Out Major Reforms to Modernize Homeopathy in India

The National Commission for Homoeopathy (NCH) is implementing the NCH Act 2020 to overhaul homeopathic education and practice. Key initiatives include the mandatory National Exit Test (NEXT) for licensing, the National Teachers’ Eligibility Test (NTET) for faculty appointments, updated Minimum Essential Standards (2024) for colleges/hospitals, and a national digital registry for practitioners.

Key implementations by the NCH:
  • National Exit Test (NEXT) and Regulations: Under the National Commission for Homoeopathy (National Examinations in Homoeopathy) Regulations 2023, the NEXT will be mandatory for licensing and enrollment in state/national registers after a one-year internship. However, practitioners registered before this regulation do not need to appear for it.
  • National Teachers’ Eligibility Test (NTET): To maintain quality, a teacher eligibility certificate is now mandatory for appointment as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, with the test focusing on teaching aptitude. Qualified candidates get a certificate valid for 10 years.
  • College Standards (2024): The NCH is enforcing “Minimum Essential Standards for Homoeopathic Colleges and Attached Hospitals Regulations, 2024,” which include mandates for infrastructure, such as licensed homoeopathic software in all OPDs and high-speed broadband.
  • National Registry: The Commission is actively implementing a comprehensive national registry for homoeopathic professionals to ensure quality control and accessibility to the public.

These measures are designed to enhance the quality of education and harmonize homoeopathic practices with national health goals.
