Characteristics:

Insects have various body shapes, usually segmented externally to varying degree. The segments are functionally modified and grouped into two or three
segments.
• Symmetry is bilateral, right and left halves are mirror images. Body develops into three germ layers. This makes arthropods triploblastic animals. Anterior body contains head which bears well developed sense organs, appendages joined and modified to perform various functions. All muscles are striated and capable
of rapid action. Blood is hemoecoele.
