More than ₹2,000 crore earmarked for Ayush

The Ministry of Ayush has earmarked more than ₹2,000 crore for the promotion, research activities and healthcare services of Ayush system of medicine this financial year, said Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush, Government of India.
Inaugurating the two-day national conference on ‘Global Acceptance for Siddha System of Medicine: Scope and Challenges’ organised by the Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS) on Friday, he said, “The Ministry is working towards providing accessible traditional healthcare — Ayush (Ayurvedu, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) — for the well-being of people.” He said that they were working on propagating Ayush system of medicine and facilitating the enforcement of quality control of Ayush drugs. “The National Health Policy 2017 has strongly advocated mainstreaming the potential of Ayush system and re-emphasised the need for integrating Ayush in National Health Mission, research and education,” he said.
Many diseases and disorders confronted in the current day clinical practices can be effectively treated by Siddha formulations and external therapies mentioned in Siddha literature, he added. This included iron deficiency, anaemia, chronic liver disorder, skin diseases, rheumatic disorders, polycystic ovarian disease and peptic ulcers.
Earlier, K. Senthilraj, Director, Directorate of Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy, Government of Tamil Nadu made a request to the Minister to allot funds to construct an auditorium for the Government Siddha College in Chennai. The Minister said he was ready to sanction the required funds and asked the Director General of CCRS and Director of National Institute of Siddha to send a joint proposal and identify the place for the auditorium.
Mr. Senthilraj said the Ministry has sanctioned 50-bed integrated Ayush hospitals at Tiruvannamalai and Theni. He requested for funds to start a similar facility at Pudukottai. “This year, the Ministry has given us funds for constructing buildings for 21 co-located Ayush facilities in primary health centres,” he said.
