Schmidt came to know about homoeopathy in 1918, in London, where he saw the results of homoeopathic treatment during an epidemic of flu. He taught pure homoeopathy to several generations of physicians in Europe while working as the core faculty at the first session of the American Foundation School. He helped in editing the final General Repertory of Kent & translated the Organon into French. In 1925, he was involved in establishing the Liga Medicorum Homoeopathica Internationalis, an international organization of classical homoeopathic physicians.
