Homeopathy is now a statutory regulated therapy in Turkey

Homeopathy is now a statutory regulated therapy in Turkey following the introduction of new legislation controlling the practice and teaching of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM).

The traditional and Complementary Medicine Regulation applies to homeopathy and 15 other CAM therapies, including chiropractic therapy, osteopathy, acupuncture, physiotherapy and hypnosis.

Under the new regulation only medical doctors and dentists who have an additional qualification on homeopathy can treat patients.

Furthermore, the therapy can only be practised in clinics and hospitals and only for the treatment of certain prescribed conditions set out in the regulation. Among these headache, upper respiratory tract infections, sleep disorders, allergy, arthritis and weak immune system.

The teaching of homeopathy will in future be limited to universities which also have a treatment clinic for traditional and complementary medicine. Officials from the Turkish health ministry were meeting with representatives from the universities in December to finalise the number of teaching hours and course duration.

At the time of going to press this information was not available but based on previous meetings It is likely that courses will consists of approximately 500 hours taught over two years.
