Indian Medicine Bill And Homoeopathy Bill Passed By Rajya Sabha

On 18th March 2020, Rajya Sabha has finally passed the NCISM BILL along with NCH BILL. The Rajya Sabha passed by voice vote the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine Bill, and the National Commission for Homoeopathy Bill. This step is being taken to pave the way for setting up of two panels aiming to provide quality homeopathy education and promote the Indian medicine system.

The Bills, introduced on January 7, 2019, were sent to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare for suggestions. The Bills will promote equitable and universal healthcare to encourage community health perspective and make services of such medical professionals accessible to all. It is also aimed to promote national health goals as well as encourage medical professionals to adopt latest medical research in their work and contribute to research.

The Chairperson of the committee, Ram Gopal Yadav, and the MP of Samajwadi Party said that 15 of the 37 recommendations of the panel on the Indian System of Medicine Bill, and 13 of the 24 recommendations on the Homoeopathy Bill were being accepted. The Chairperson also urged the government to include similar legislation Yoga and Naturopathy in the ISM Bill, covering Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Sowa-Rigpa.
