The Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) has refused permission to 27 AYUSH colleges in the state. Sources in the department say that more than 27 colleges have been refused permission this year for some undergraduate and postgraduate courses due to poor infrastructure.
The affiliated university for these colleges, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), has also issued a circular to these 27 colleges in the state, which includes three institutes in Bengaluru. We hope that these colleges will follow the notification, as it is a directive to deny these colleges the permission of the Government of India for UG and PG Ayush courses.
Students of courses like BAMS, MD / MS Ayurveda and BUMS have been asked not to enrol for AYUSH course. In Bengaluru, Ramakrishna Ayurvedic Medical College Hospital and Research Center has been refused admission for BAMS and MD / MS Ayurveda, Hillside Ayurveda Medical College has been refused for BAMS and Indian Institute of Medical Sciences this year too BAMS is denied running.
Other colleges are in districts like Chitradurga, Hubli, Shivamogga, Sulia, Haveri, Badami, Tumkur, Dharwad, Bijapur, Belgaum, Bagalkot, Nipani and Gulbarga.
A circular of RGUHS states, “Colleges must strictly follow the instructions of the Government of India regarding grant of no admission for the said courses for the year 2019-20. If any admission is found, strict action will be taken against such institutions as per the rules. ”
However, speaking to Bangalore Mirror, RGUHS Vice-Chancellor Drs. S Sachchidananda said, “More than 27 AYUSH colleges have not been allowed this year due to several criteria mainly due to poor infrastructure and availability of faculty. Ayush himself has conducted an inquiry and based on his criteria these colleges have been denied permission. “
