The 27th International Homeopathic Conference (IHCON) of the Asian Medical Homoeopathic League (AHML) was organized by the Nepal Chapter of AHML from April 20 to 21, 2019 in the capital city, Kathmandu. More than 250 delegates from countries such as Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia and Ukraine, etc. attended the event.
The main guest for the 2-day conference was the former Prime Minister of Nepal, Mr Pushpa Kamal Dahal, popularly known as Prachanda and the Minister of Health. He urged the homeopathic doctors of Nepal to work for the improvement of the nation by promoting homeopathy, since it is a very safe and effective medical system.
Dr Sanket Gupta and Kaartik Gupta of the AKGsOVIHAMS Medical Centers presented a document entitled “Role of Integration of Homoeopathy and Psychology in the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)”. They presented a case of a 49-year-old man who suffered from OCD and who had been treated with integration of homeopathic medicines and psychotherapy.
Dr. Sanket Gupta, homeopathic consultant at AKGsOVIHAMS, emphasized the role of homeopathic medicines in the treatment of psychological disorders. He highlighted the individualistic approach followed in Homeopathy, since it is based on the principle of “Treating the man in illness and not the illness in man”.
Kaartik Gupta, a clinical psychologist at AKGsOVIHAMS, described in detail the process, approach and techniques that were used as part of psychotherapy to treat this case. Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based therapy for the treatment of OCD since it also shared common personality traits and cognitive errors that make an individual vulnerable to OCD.
During the conference, Dr Nikolay from Russia informed Prof. Dr A. K. Gupta, Founder and Director of AKGsOVIHAMS, about one of his Moscow cases, whom he had referred to Dr Gupta because the patient had a neurological problem. Dr Nikolay shared that the patient has shown remarkable improvements and even proposed to present the case jointly at the next international conference.
The conference was a great success, as eminent homeopathic doctors from different parts of Asia shared their clinical experiences on the wonderful effects of homeopathy in the treatment of both acute and chronic diseases. Some of the papers presented included topics such as the role of homeopathy in the treatment of PCOD, psychosomatic problems, thyroid problems, evidence-based cases treated with homeopathy, the role of yoga in the holistic approach, cancer, fibroid uterus, homeopathic repertoire and crystal therapy.
Later a new AHML spokesperson was elected. Dr Girish Gupta was elected President and Dr. Sandeep Kaila was elected as Secretary-General and Dr Anil Seth was declared Honorary President.
