The new curriculum obtained final approval from BoG last month and will be implemented from August when the new academic course begins (2019-2020). The unit will be designed for 3 months by the Ministry of Ayush.
Students will be given the choice of Ayush (Ayurveda, yoga, physiotherapy, Unani, Siddha and homoeopathy) as an elective subject from the 2019-2020 school year, said a senior board member who oversees medical colleges. The aim of the initiative is to introduce future doctors to alternative medicine systems.
In September 2018 the government dissolved the Medical Board of India and formed the BoG to replace the medical regulator. The new curriculum obtained final approval from BoG last month and will be implemented from August when the new academic course begins (2019-2020). The unit will be designed for 3 months by the Ministry of Ayush.
Dr V K Paul, chairman, BoG said, “It is to give a hang of the alternative systems of medicine to the students of allopathy. Ayush systems can play a great role in promoting preventive health. However, it will not be mandatory for medical students,”.
“The students will get to visit Ayush hospitals, attend outpatient departments (OPDs), etc,” he included.
