Exams for 2019 GCET to be held on May 7, 8

Panaji: The Goa Common Entrance Test in 2019 will be held on May 7 and 8, for admissions to professional degree programmes in engineering and pharmacy.
The format of the test will remain the same as in 2018. And admissions to degree programmes in medicine, dentistry, homeopathy, ayurveda, allied health programmes and nursing in Goa will be carried out based on the national eligibility cum entrance test (NEET). Aspirants for these programmes have to answer NEET, the directorate of technical education has reminded students.

From 2018 onwards, GCET is held only in physics, chemistry and mathematics. All three subjects are answered by aspirants of engineering seats, while those who want to join the pharmacy programme only answer the physics and chemistry papers.

The biology paper at GCET was discontinued from 2018, after the central government decided that other than aspirants of medicine and dentistry courses, those who want to join homeopathy and ayurveda programmes should also answer NEET. This left only engineering and pharmacy aspirants to answer GCET for admissions and for these programmes there is no requirement to test the knowledge of biology.

“The GCET dates are planned every year to fall on the first Tuesday and Wednesday of May,” a state official said. The test will begin at 10am on May 7 and end at 12noon on the following day in 2019. Around 4,200 answered the GCET in May 2018.
