World Homeopathy Day is celebrated on 10th April every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy. Dr. Hahnemann, a German MD discovered homeopathy in 1796. This was brought to India in 1835 through the court of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in Patiala by a French physician, Dr. John Martin Honigberger.
Missionaries took homeopathy to every corner in India, by providing free homeopathic treatment, thereby popularizing this alternative system of medicine. Today, more than 10 crore people in India depend on homeopathy for their healthcare needs.
India, with its 200,000 homeopathic doctors, has the largest number of homeopaths in the world. There are 135 colleges, which provide a five-and-a-half-year homeopathy course for 12,000 new homeopathic doctors who pass out every year.
A recent IMRB study (2016) across eight major metros in India showed 100 per cent awareness on homeopathy, with 59 per cent people having switched to this system of medicine. The popularity of homeopathy in India has led it to become a Rs. 5,600 croremarket in the country.
The Indian Government has set up a separate AYUSH ministry, which last year sanctioned Rs. 4,000 crore for popularizing homeopathy in India.
Homeopathy is one of the fastest growing systems of medicine in the world. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), homeopathy is already the 2nd largest system of medicine. It is legally practiced in 86 countries. France, Germany, UK, UAE, U.S., and Canada are amongst some of the countries where homeopathy is well-known.
Besides being safe, homeopathy also builds resistance, develops immunity and strengthens the body to fight illnesses. It treats the root cause of the disorder and provides long-lasting results.
On the occasion, Dr. Mukesh Batra, Padma Shri recipient and Founder-Chairman of Dr Batra’s[TM] group of companies, said, “I believe that every Indian deserves the goodness of homeopathy. We aim to celebrate the joy of healing through homeopathy by reaching it out to as many people as possible. We intended celebrating not just the D-day, but the entire week as World Homeopathy Week by providing free consultation across all our clinics.”
