Chennai: K Candassamy (69), a retired Loyola College professor and an educational adviser for institutions, is rendering social services at Mugappair in the city.
Residing in Seethakathi Salai, Mugappair East, in the locality, he is guiding and paying fees for poor students in the locality. Not only that, he is also giving free consultations in homeopathy and counselling to families for their life problems.
Speaking to this reporter, Candassamy, said, ”I am based out of Karaikal, Pudhucherry. While I did my schooling in India, I went to France for higher studies. Learning French there, I also became a trainer of that language teaching it in schools and colleges when I returned to our country. With great experience, I became an expert French teacher that, even after retirement, colleges extended my job for another 10 years.
“During my stint as a teacher, I adopted three villages in Dindigul, Tindivanam and Karaikal districts and gave bed sheets and saris to the downtrodden people. Even today, I am rendering my services to slum people in Karaikal. I pay school and college fees of poor students. I also teach them to help others who are in need of money. So, many of my students had started helping others because they know its importance,” he added.
Candassamy had also organised medical camp for army personnel staying in the border of Gujarat. “I had helped people living on the outskirts of Chennai by providing medicines to control flu and other diseases. As part of my spiritual services, I had also built three temples and a Madha dome in memory of my wife,” he further emphasised.
It seems Candassamy had got possibilities of getting a French citizenship many times in the past. ”But I rejected and settled in India. I had also written many books on ethics, moral values and education,” he further added.
When asked about his residence in Mugappair, he said, ”I came to Nerkundram in the year 2000 and bought a plot at Seethakathi Salai, Mugappair East. I settled here in 2005. I am giving free homeopathy consultation and free medicines to the people. Those who are in need of free consultation can approach me.”
