Homoeopathy Students Allege Dispur Apathy

Guwahati: The All Assam Homoeopathic Medical College Students’ Union has asked the state government to look into the unemployment problem faced by homoeopathic doctors.
The union urged the government immediately resolve the issue.
The students’ union said since the inception of Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) course in Assam in mid-90s not even a single medical officer (homoeopathy) has been appointed by the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC).
“The state government has even deprived them of their due benefits and requisite employment under the Centre’s flagship programme as well. When health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was told about the issue, he said it was a non-priority,” the president of union, Eyasin Ikram Farazi, said.
During the last counselling session for fresh BHMS admissions, existing BHMS students held a protest against the state government for not creating any placement opportunities for them.
Recently, the homoeopathic fraternity started a Twitter hashtag crusade #stopdeprivinghomoeopathicdoctorsinAssam to highlight the issues of college, its infrastructure and growing unemployment.
There are three government homoeopathic medical colleges and a government Ayurvedic college in Assam.
